Consultation has concluded
The City of Hamilton is commemorating the 175th anniversary of the city’s founding.
To mark the occasion, this fall, we're creating a new digital storytelling website which will present a wide-ranging and inclusive view of Hamilton’s past, present and future. The opening lineup of virtual exhibits is being developed in collaboration with partners and community groups.
We want to hear from you as we develop the project!
Share your ideas or map them out by answering the following questions:
- How would you like to contribute to the digital storytelling website? For example, share your stories, post photos or videos, add comments.
- What topics and stories are you interested in exploring?
- Share an event or a place that is important to your heritage, community or the history of the city.
The thoughts and ideas you share with us will shape the website’s features and inform future exhibit development.

The Khan (R.K. Kernighan) was known as Canada’s Mark Twain. He lived and wrote from a log cabin at Rockton. The family home is still there.

Celebrating the "shorty green" water fountain!
In 1915 Hamilton was the first city in Hamilton to install water fountains - the shorty greens. Celebrate the city's progressive thinking by ensuring that every city park and parkette within the city of Hamilton's urban boundary has a water fountain in it! And put at least one shorty green back in service - in Gore Park - along with a plaque commemorating the city's foresight in 1915, and it's pledge today, that every park and parkette have a water fountain.

.Being a center of industry means that Hamilton workers have had to struggle for a better quality of life for themselves. Episodes like the 1873 Nine Hour Movement and the 1946 Stelco Strike show us how working class Hamiltonians fought for a better life for themselves and in doing so gave us a better life today.

Investing in more Art and Broadway
Hamilton must do better in the music, Broadway and arts. If Hamilton would ever want to bring tech hubs, companies, etc we need to invest in our arts. As a realtor across the GTHA, I see why certain communities thrive and certain communities gets left behind. Create more communal work spaces where aspiring influencers, film makers, artists can feed our culture. We need a WeWork, HXOUSE and etc work spaces. Hamilton needs to ensure access to critical networks and opportunities needed to build sustainable, successful businesses are never hindered based on economic background or social class for artists of all kind. Just having an art gallery and few programs is not enough. We need to invest in new non profits for this to grow.
