Hamilton’s Plan for an Age-Friendly Community (2021-2026) was launched in April 2021 and includes 7 strategic goals, 21 objectives and 61 recommendations. Like Hamilton’s first plan, this plan is a guide for municipal decision-makers and community stakeholders in addressing the current needs and priorities of older adults and seniors living in Hamilton.

Annually, an Age-Friendly Community Progress Report is prepared and presented to Hamilton City Council and residents. This report highlights the progress and achievements as we continue to work towards making Hamilton an age-friendly community.

Share your 2025 Age-Friendly Success Story

Tell us something you or your organization did in 2025 to help make Hamilton more age-friendly - a welcoming and supportive place for older adults. Your efforts matter, and your example can inspire others across our community.

What makes something age-friendly?

Anything that makes a space, service, or program easier, safer, or more comfortable for older adults. Age-friendly changes help people stay independent, connected, and supported as they age. Examples include:

  • Adding chairs or comfortable seating areas
  • Using larger-print signs and clear wayfinding
  • Improving lighting and walkways
  • Offering help at the door or on arrival
  • Providing delivery services or house calls
  • Creating programs or activities that welcome older adults
  • Building or upgrading spaces with seniors in mind
  • Making policy or service changes that better support older adults

Small changes can make a big difference — for seniors and for the whole community.
