Anniversary party
When my wife and I were preparing to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary, we decided to throw a party to celebrate with our friends and family and neighbours. We lived in a 500-square foot one-bedroom apartment with no amenity room in our downtown Hamilton apartment building. We live a 5-minute walk from the former SJAM high school which remains publicly accessible but vacant. We invited 50-or-so people to join us in the former SJAM school's soccer field on an August Saturday and we had a wonderful celebration. We hung balloons from the soccer goalposts, borrowed folding tables from a downtown church, and ordered pizza from a nearby local shop. Some family drove from out of town, some friends biked from different neighbourhoods in Hamilton, and some neighbours walked the same 5-minute walk we did from our nearby apartment building complex. Some kids made colouring pages on the borrowed tables, some teens played spikeball further away in the soccer field and adults mingled standing or sitting in lawn chairs. It was an unforgettable joy!
