Consultation has concluded
The Bayfront Industrial Area Strategy is a 45+ year vision and action plan that seeks to encourage efficient use of land, attract growth and investment, and improve the environmental conditions and image of the City’s largest and oldest industrial area for a future of continuing productivity.
We are in Phase II of a three-phase project and have consulted with various groups to gain stakeholder and public input. However, upon further analysis of the demographics attending engagement events held to-date, it was determined that there is a need to consult with the under 30 years of age demographic. As such, we are looking to gain input on what youth think about the City’s largest and oldest employment area today, what youth would like to see in the future; and gain youth input on employment barriers and factors for workplace happiness.
As this is a long-term strategy, it will be youth who will actually see the change of this area and vision come to fruition. We want your feedback to ensure that youth have a voice in shaping the future of the Bayfront Industrial Area Strategy, to obtain insights from a youth perspective, to identify youth issues and concerns, to build capacity and enhance collaboration with youth.
Background
The Bayfront Industrial Area consists of 1,607-hectare of mixed industrial lands on the shore of Hamilton Harbour, is adjacent to some of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, and plays a vital role in the City’s economic engine. The area is part of a Provincially Significant Employment Zone and employs over 18,000 people. It is also home to the largest steel cluster in the country, the largest and most active port in the province, and contains a unique multimodal transportation network.
Due to Covid-19 our in-person youth engagement event that was planned for March 2020 was cancelled.
How we will use your input
All input collected and generated will be analyzed for key insights
Key insights from our discussions will be shared with our Steering Committee (business representatives from larger companies located in the study area)
Input will be assessed and included in our Bayfront Industrial Area Strategy & Action Plan document
Insights and data will be shared with City staff to inform the 2020-2025 Economic Development Action Plan
