Consultation has concluded
Since 2015, the City Enrichment Fund (CEF) has invested in local charities, not-for-profit, artists* and grassroots organizations across seven sector areas in Hamilton each year. Designed in consultation with community and City staff across multiple departments, we continue to take steps towards making improvements to program delivery, accessibility, reaching equity-deserving groups, and ensuring alignment with best practices.
About City Enrichment Fund (CEF)
CEF is the City of Hamilton’s central funding program, making annual investments through seven unique program areas:
Agriculture
Arts
Communities, Culture and Heritage
Community Services
Digital
Environment
Sport and Active Lifestyles
Each year, applications are processed by staff and reviewed by an adjudication team made up of arms-length reviewers and City staff. In 2023, CEF program provided funding to 313 applicants, totaling $6,575,410.
*In 2016, the arts CEF program area launched the Creation and Presentation stream, which funds professional artist projects. It is the only stream to fund artist projects directly.

In the Fall of 2023, staff engaged the public to develop a set of community informed funding principles. The feedback from the survey and engagement sessions support a set of Funding Principles that provides funding to all passing applicants, recognizes returning organizations, and provides access to new applicants and programming. A sincere thanks and appreciation to all who participated and shared your time and feedback on the City Enrichment Fund program.
