Electric City Public Art
Consultation has concluded
The City of Hamilton invites the public to provide input on short listed proposals for a permanent public art work to be sited at Confederation Beach Park, 180 Van Wagner’s Beach Road, Hamilton in Ward 5. Artists were asked to propose artworks that will speak to the impact that AC electric power had and continues to have on Hamilton.
Artists will be selected by a citizen jury through a two-stage process involving a concept and design proposal, followed by public consultation on selected Artists’ detailed proposals.
Fifty One (51) stage 1 submissions were received for the project. The six (6) highest scoring Artists or Artist Led Teams were shortlisted by a citizen jury and invited to submit a stage 2 submission.
The City of Hamilton is seeking your opinion on the shortlisted submissions for the Hamilton the Electric City Public Art Project. Your opinions will help inform the citizen jury in their final selection of the winning Art Work(s) to be installed.
Project Award
The volunteer citizen jury has selected the work Empower by Lilly Otasevic as the winning proposal. While there was enthusiastic support for each of the six proposals, the prevailing preference was for Empower by Lilly Otasevic.
The many perceptive comments in support of this proposal supported the jury in making their decision to award this proposal the highest score.
