The City of Hamilton's Economic Development Division is undertaking a review of the existing Hamilton LEEDing the Way Community Improvement Plan (LEED CIP) that provides financial incentive towards the construction of LEED certified buildings city-wide through the LEED Grant Program.

The goal of the review is to ensure these program continues to:

  1. Provide property owners and developers with effective financial assistance that encourages more environmentally sustainable development including the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions;
  2. Meet their intended goals in terms of supporting investment and assessment growth, particularly with respective to industrial and commercial growth, and improving the environmental performance of buildings;
  3. Be financially sustainable for the City; and
  4. Align with community and Council priorities.

To inform our review, we want your feedback about our existing LEED CIP program, our proposal for an expansion of the CIP to capture other green and sustainability initiatives and to hear your ideas and suggestions for how the proposed program could be improved to further support city-wide investment and overall "green" building.

    This questionnaire only pertains to the financial incentive programs (the LEED Grant program) provided under the LEED CIP and is not intended to apply to any other financial incentive programs available from the City of Hamilton (City) including those under the Revitalizing Hamilton’s Commercial Districts or Hamilton ‘ERASE Community Improvement Plans'.

    LEED™ stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is a green building rating system was originally developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to provide a recognized standard for the construction industry to assess the environmental sustainability of building designs. Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC) has since adapted the USGBC LEED™ rating system to the specific concerns and requirements of buildings in Canada. LEED™ is a point-based rating system; points are earned for building attributes considered environmentally beneficial.
