Parking standards, or parking requirements, are a tool within the City’s Zoning By-laws that regulate the parking to be provided when new developments are built. Zoning By-laws set out requirements for the location, amount, size and design of parking spaces. A review and update of the City’s Parking Standards was initiated in late 2022 to examine more progressive approaches for establishing parking requirements that take into consideration issues such as environmental impacts, cost and affordability, climate change, and the need to reduce auto dependency and associated impacts. Parking standards also need to reflect different aspects of mobility including active transportation (i.e. walking or cycling), accessible parking, shared mobility (i.e. ridesharing), micro-mobility, and electric vehicle charging.

Join City Transportation Staff to discuss changes proposed to the City's parking standards for new development. City Planning Staff will also be present to discuss the changes proposed to residential zones across the City through the Reimagining Neighbourhoods Project.

We are looking for your feedback on a potential approach that seek to eliminate or reduce parking minimums in some areas of the city, as well as introduce new requirements such as parking for electric vehicles. Note that the primary focus of this survey is on parking standards for residential development.
