Parkside Hills Park Development

Parkside Hills Park preferred concept illustration viewed from above. The park is designed around a mix of open green space, play areas, sports courts, walking paths, seating, and shaded gathering spaces.

Features:

• Two large grassy open areas create the main structure of the park. One open lawn is located beside the water tower at the corner of Cole Street and Nisbet Boulevard on the south-west side of the park. The second open play area runs along White Gates Drive on the western edge of the site.
• The main park amenities are located near the centre of the park and can be reached from five pathway entrances around the edges of the site. Entrances connect from Cole Street, Nisbet Boulevard, and White Gates Drive, providing access from multiple directions.
• Smooth walking paths connect all areas of the park with benches placed along the 3m wide pathways.
• Near the centre of the park is a covered sun shelter with nearby seating and a drinking fountain. Picnic tables, which include accessible seating spaces, are also provided.
• The park includes two playground areas. One play area is designed for younger children ages 2 to 5 and the second area is designed for children ages 5 to 12.
• Another pathway passes through the playground areas and connects them to the sports courts. A bike rack and a light post are located along this route.
• The two sports courts provided are separated to allow for simultaneous gameplay to take place. One is a half basketball court, and the other is a multi-purpose court with a “ball wall”. Benches are provided adjacent to each court.
• Trees are planted throughout the park, including both leafy shade trees and evergreen coniferous trees. Some trees provide shade and shelter near benches and gathering areas.
• Near the Cole Street entrance, the sloped hillside is planted with native wildflowers and grasses. This meadow area adds natural colour and texture while supporting birds, pollinators, and local biodiversity.
