The City of Hamilton has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study for the Twenty Road East and Upper Red Hill Valley Parkway extensions.
Twenty Road East is intended to be extended easterly from its existing terminus at Glover Road and Upper Red Hill Valley Parkway is intended to be extended southerly from its existing terminus at Rymal Road. These two road extensions will connect at a new intersection. These road extensions are necessary to meet the transportation needs in the area, and to support the ongoing and future development within the Red Hill Business Park South.
The Class EA process
The approved North Glanbrook Business Park Transportation Master Plan and Red Hill Business Park South Transportation Master Plan Addendum collectively fulfilled the requirements of Phases 1 and 2 of the Class EA process. This next phase of the study is following the Phase 3 and 4 requirements for a Schedule C project under the Municipal Class EA document (October 2000, as amended in 2007, 2011 and 2015).
Project Update - June 2025
We're back and looking forward to share what's next! Building on what we heard during our first public engagement (PIC #1) held February 2021, we’ve been busy exploring ideas and developing draft alternatives, and now we're ready to come together again to confirm next steps.
During our first public engagement (PIC#1), we heard:
Concerns with natural environment impacts caused by road construction.
Requests for both cycling and walking infrastructure for the future Twenty Road and Upper Red Hill Valley Parkway Extensions.
Concerns with implementation and traffic impacts during construction.
Help shape the final design!
We're looking forward to coming together again on June 26, 2025 for our second public engagement (PIC #2) to:
Share a quick recap of what we heard at PIC #1.
Present the alternative designs and preferred design for your review.
Ask for your feedback on what direction feels best, and any other thoughts you’d like to share.
Once the alternatives have been evaluated and the preliminary preferred design has been selected (PIC #2). Once the study is completed the Environmental Study Report will be placed on public record for a minimum 30-day review period (Notice of Study Completion).
