The Canadian Radio-Television and Tele-communication Commission (CRTC) has begun a transition to an enhanced and expanded emergency response system known as the “Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911)” program. On June 1, 2017, the CRTC directed all telephone companies to update their networks and data in order to prepare for enhanced 9-1-1 services.

In Hamilton, several duplicate street names and municipal addressing issues have been identified for resolution in order to facilitate the Next Generation 9-1-1 program.

Streets identified for renaming

These streets were identified and approved for a street name change, per Staff Reports to Planning Committee PED20175, PED20175(a), PED20175(b):

Bayview Avenue, Flamborough (Greensville) - Ward 13Bayview Avenue within Greensville was identified as a duplicate street name with Bayview Avenue in Waterdown.
Margaret Street, Flamborough (Lynden) - Ward 12Margaret Street within Lynden was identified as a duplicate street name with Margaret Street in Waterdown.
Sleepy Hollow Court, Dundas - Ward 13Sleepy Hollow Court has an irregular layout, where the street splits both northerly and southerly at the existing island /median, resulting in even numbers on the odd side of the street and vice versa. It is recommended that the existing road island/median be used as a divider; and, that a portion of Sleepy Hollow Court be renamed.
Union Street, Flamborough (Lynden) - Ward 12Union Street within Lynden was identified as a duplicate street name with Union Street in Waterdown.
William Street, Flamborough (Freelton) - Ward 13William Street within Freelton was identified as a duplicate street name with William Street(s) in both Waterdown (Flamborough) and Carlisle (Flamborough).
William Street, Flamborough (Waterdown) - Ward 15William Street within Waterdown was identified as a duplicate street name with William Street(s) in both Carlisle (Flamborough) and Freelton (Flamborough).
Woodworth Drive, Ancaster - Ward 12Woodworth Drive, Ancaster has irregular municipal addressing where even and odd side of the street become reversed at Elgin Court.

Recommended resolution: To minimize impacts to residents, the name of Woodworth Drive will be kept, and the street will be separated into Woodworth Drive East and Woodworth Drive West using Elgin Court as the divider.

    In particular, if your street has been identified for a street name change, please provide us with your preferred street name suggestion. The final street name will be selected and proposed in consultation with your Ward Councillor for adoption.
